September 6th, marks the beginning of fashion week in NYC, and most of the “festivities” take place in my “hood,” where I have my urban (NYC) garden; a garden that a lone cardinal, groups of mourning doves, as well as groups of house finches have been visiting since late June.
They are quite the talkers, these visiting birds, and I imagine that no secret is safe with them! For example, one of “my” house finches was sporting an ankle bracelet (as seen in the first image accompanying this tumblr entry), and I thought it was in honor of fashion week!
However, her house finch comrades beg to differ! They have informed me that her wearing a bracelet has nothing to do with fashion, rather, her bracelet, according to these birds, is “an indication that she has been under house arrest and may have escaped!”
“If you see something, say something,” they told me when I asked them about their comments towards the bracelet wearing house finch! Indeed, dear reader, you can imagine that “my” visiting cardinal, mourning doves and house finches are always “seeing something;” as evidenced by their stares in the images that follow “my” bracelet wearing friend’s picture!
I was surprised to find out that “my” visiting birds were so presumptuous! I had thought I was the only presumptuous one in “our” garden (yes, I can be presumptuous as evidenced in an “observation” I made about a lone seagull at Robert Moses State Park).
Because “giving voice to what lives in (and visits) my garden,” is my motive behind a project I’ve undertaken, I’m more aware than ever about the need to be very careful when I speak about what grows here, as well as the birds that visit, as I don’t want to put false words in someone’s beak!
