“There’s fennel for you and columbines,” Ophelia tells the king as she hands it to him. This was her way of insulting the King in front of others, because once you pick Foeniculum vulgare AKA Fennel, the beautiful herb seen in the lower right hand corner of the foreground of the image to the left and next to the Purple  Basil in the image to the right (both taken in my urban — New York City — terrace garden) accompanying this text; it wilts quickly.
